Earlier this year, the Sarbo Unity Foundation marked a significant milestone with the commencement of construction on the Sarbo Development Center in Sweaken, Sarbo District, River Gee County, Liberia. This initiative aims to provide the local community with access to quality education and vocational training, addressing the longstanding challenges of limited educational infrastructure in the region.
The Sarbo Development Center is designed as a six-building campus spanning 16 acres of land generously donated by the Sarbo Tribal Elders. The planned facilities include a high school building, vocational school building, library and resource center, multipurpose hall, kitchen and dining hall, administrative building, generator house, staff quarters, toileting facility, and a water tower. These structures are intended to support a range of development programs in education, vocational training, adult literacy, health, and agriculture, thereby fostering a self-reliant and empowered community.

The Sarbo Unity Foundation’s mission is to invest in capabilities that improve the lives and living conditions of the impoverished people of the Sarbo Tribe and adjacent tribal communities in River Gee County. By establishing the Sarbo Development Center, the Foundation seeks to prevent the separation and relocation of high-school-age children to other tribes and urban areas, provide more employment opportunities for youths and young adults through vocational training, and enhance social equity and overall quality of life.
